“A Long Way Off” was my first large solo show at Julia’s Ristorante in Oakville. It was a collection of painting about the journey of the human being as it breaks away from civilization and society in search of freedom, serenity, and stillness.

At the opening reception a lot of my friends showed up. It was fun. Thank you all.

Jurors liked my painting. It received 3rd place.

The Art of Seven Women

3 years, 11 months ago News 0

I have recently joined the Heliconian Club, Canada’s oldest women-only arts club.  Its founding in 1909 was a response to women’s exclusion from the Toronto Arts and Letters Club (which only opened its doors to women in 1985).
Every year in September the Heliconian Club features the work of new Art Section members. And this year’s group of seven women brings together a show that is diverse in its use of media including paints, wood, photography and even music.

The last week of July I attended oil & cold wax Abstract Painting course with Janice Mason Steeves — great person and great artist. My grand kids, Chloe (7) and Elliot (6) and my niece from Poland came with me and each morning we were heading different directions. They took classes at the college as well.

14th annual juried show, Oakville

4 years, 3 months ago News 0

My painting “Who & When” received a Honorable Mention award at the open juried show in Oakville.
Juriors remarks: “Complex marks play against stripped-back composition to pose unanswered questions about absence, isolation and memory.”

This was my first painting done in mixed media; oil & cold wax. I titled it “Who & When” questioning to whom this chair belonged, what kind of person was sitting on it, who was the last person using it, and, when – many years ago, recently, is this person coming back.

Jurors were: Eileen Menzel OSA, she is a former visual arts teacher with the Toronto District School Board, an experienced juror and an award-winning mixed media artist many times over with 140 exhibitions since 2000.
Kal Honey, is an award-winning graduate of OCAD, a visual artist & instructor with many years experience as a graphic designer & art director. His work explores the potential of unorthodox methods and materials, often featuring text and graphic elements.
You can visit the exhibit from May 16 till June 5.
